PRESSING

While the paper parts are being printed, after cutting and processing the first pressing stage takes place, this is usually with test pressings (T.P.’s).

TP’s are a kind of insurance policy to protect you against an faults in the finished main run. We will press 10 copies of the record with white labels so that you can check how the finished run will sound, without spending money on the a full run of hundreds of records. As with the artwork digital proof, this is the last chance to iron out any flaws/problems with the audio and once you decide that the record sounds how you want it to, you can give the go ahead for the main pressing run. If you choose not to have test pressing and wish to go with the main run straight away, you are accepting responsibility for any flaws that occur on the main run that could have been detected at the test pressing stage. See it as having a crashing into a car when you only have third party insurance - it’s going to cost you more, so it’s fine as long as you are aware of the risk.

When we ship the TP’s, we do so in 2 separate packages of 5, both by recorded, insured delivery. This way, should the worst happen and they are lost or damaged in during shipping, the chances of both packages suffering this fate is very slim, but this will ensure that you have at lease some test pressings and you don’t have to wait another 5-7 working days for more. This is in place to try and keep the turnaround time to a minimum, helping you keep your release date for your project.

Once TP’s are approved and you are ready to proceed with the main run we place your release in the pressing queue, which varies depending on the time of year and current demand. We aim to get the records pressed and ready for dispatch 5-7 business days from approval of TP’s (provided all paper parts needed are on site).
